I'M GRAMMY NOMINATED!!!

For over 20 years I've been doing spoken word level and finally I feel that I'm receiving the recognition that I rightfully deserve.

On November 10th at 8:17am PST "For Your Consideration '24"The Album by Prentice Powell and Myself, (Shawn William) was nominated for a Grammy. A lot of hard work was put in to create this album. With the help of our videographer Matt Forbes, we created Grammy worth art that will stand the test of time and beyond, but for me personally, this was my lifetime achievement moment. After 20 years of "Almost" making it. "Almost" Almost being on "Def Poetry", ("Danger" by Amir beat out "Batteries") "Almost" being on Lyric Cafe in the Bahamas (A Hurricane shut down the trip), "Almost" featuring for the Marvin Gaye Tribute in Detroit (The Pandemic shut it down) I was so tired of "Almost" being selected I damn near lost hope. Now don't get me wrong, I was blessed to tour and open for Jill Scott, and being on Verses & Flow and the Arsenio Hall Show, good times but I was with Fiveology, but THIS time, my name is being acknowledged and it feels amazing.

For years I held a chip on my shoulder for not being rightfully acknowledged for everything that I did for spoken word, until I realized, I never took the shoot, I sat besides people, had them take the shot, and then wondered why I didn't get any credit for being a shooter. Well even though I'm riding this journey with the very talented Prentice Powell, we're both taking shots and so far we've been winning.
